Commonwealth Games 2022

The Commonwealth Games is a big opportunity for Birmingham and the West Midlands, it is a chance to make a real difference and help us all succeed, not just now but for years to come. It is creating:

  • new and upgraded sports facilities
  • affordable housing
  • volunteering opportunities
  • job opportunities

Find out about the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Transport has an important role to play in making all this happen which is why, in partnership with the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee and local authorities across the West Midlands, we are accelerating existing transport plans to deliver a truly unforgettable Games.

Games Transport Plan

We came to you last year with the draft Strategic Transport Plan and after listening to your views on our planning pillars, we’re back to show you how we’ve taken them onboard and created the Games Transport Plan for the region.

During the Games, over 1 million people will travel around the region to training and competition venues. The plan explains how we’ll make sure transport runs smoothly for everyone during this time.

The Games Transport Plan explains how we’ll make decisions about transport, to make sure you can continue to travel around the West Midlands during the Games and outlines the approach we’re taking to the planning, delivery and management of transport services during the Games.

It doesn’t cover the exact details of how transport will work, for example between venues, or what roads will be closed, but this detail will be available, and we will be talking to residents and businesses affected, over the next few months.
