We are pleased to be moving into the main construction stage for Sprint, delivering the infrastructure needed for bus priority on the A34/45 route in time for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Our delivery partner, Morgan Sindall will be beginning work on the A45 in Birmingham in January 2021 with work commencing at Bordesley Circus. We will update this page as construction begins and moves along the route to keep you informed about the works on the ground. Work on the A34 is expected to begin in Spring 2021.
Bus Shelter Installation
95 distinct and high-quality bus shelters will be installed along the Sprint corridor, providing easily accessible and enhanced waiting facilities for passengers. The new shelters will be larger and modernised compared to current bus shelters, and will contain seating, real time passenger information, and CCTV cameras to improve safety at the stops and surrounding areas. Our prototype shelter can be found at the Coventry Rd/Kings Rd stop on the A45 in Hay Mills.
Due to the sequencing of the works, there may be some time between the existing shelter being removed, the bus stop upgrade taking place and the new shelter being installed. The time between these activities will be kept to a minimum where possible to reduce any disruption. Letters will be sent to residents living near existing bus shelters and we will keep you informed here where and when shelters are being installed on the route.
