Park and ride commuters using Bromsgrove Railway Station car park can now use their Swift travel cards to pay.
Passengers can already use Swift smart travel cards on buses, trams and trains but this is the first time they will be able to pay for parking too.
It marks a major step on the way to creating a fully integrated transport system with Swift as a convenient and flexible way to get around.
Although the new machine takes cash or debit card as well, those using Swift Pay As You Go will get a discount.
The daily cash fee of £3 is just £2.80 with Swift and there is an 80p discount on the £11 weekly cash charge.
Visitors to Bromsgrove Railway Station, which has a 350 space car park, can not only board trains on the cross city line to Birmingham and Lichfield, but also connect to buses to Kidderminster, Longbridge and Halesowen.
Cllr Ken Pollock, cabinet member for economy and infrastructure for Worcestershire County Council said: “This is great for commuters in Bromsgrove who now have more convenient ways to pay for their parking.
“No more fiddling for change and you can use the same card on buses and trams.”
Swift is the smart travel card developed and operated by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), part of the West Midlands Combined Authority.
Laura Shoaf, managing director of TfWM, added: “Swift is the all-purpose card for travelling by train, bus and metro in the West Midlands and now in a first you can use it for car parking.
“We are not just stopping at Bromsgrove, we are looking to introduce Swift parking at more locations.
“We want to use Swift to make travel easier, quicker and better value for money.”
TfWM is currently planning with partners to expand Swift pay as you go access to more facilities.
There are also pilots underway for using the smart card on taxis and at leisure centres.
The new parking machine at Bromsgrove Station still takes cash or debit cards.
Swift Pay As You Go cards can be used on buses and trams and now for parking. Swift season tickets are available for trains as well.
