Walsall Council is working in partnership with Highways England to improve Junction 10 of the M6 motorway.
M6 junction 10 is of strategic importance within the Black Country and the wider region, it is on a busy route between Walsall and Wolverhampton. The junction is often heavily congested, and this reduces the attractiveness of the local area for business and investment, including within the nearby Black Country Enterprise Zone.
The old south bridge has been successfully demolished as part of M6 junction 10 improvement scheme. The work was carried out safely over the weekend of 6 to 9 May 2022.
Both M6 carriageways were opened earlier than planned. Thank you for your patience and understanding while following travel advice in finding alternative routes over the weekend.
There will now be further overnight closures around the roundabout, and the existing north bridge is due to be demolished from Friday 20 May.
Works may be subject to change, so please check this webpage and National Highways for further updates.
Monday 9 May to Friday 20 May from 9pm to 5am:
- Full closure of the Wolverhampton Road West (from Arnwood Close to the junction 10 roundabout).
Diversion for traffic wishing to join the M6 northbound or southbound is Bentley Road North, around the roundabout to join the Black Country Route westbound to the Black Country New Road and across to M6 junction 9.
Diversion for traffic wishing to join the A454 Wolverhampton Road eastbound (towards Walsall) is Bentley Road North, around the roundabout to join the Black Country Route westbound to the Black Country New Road, across M6 junction 9 and on to Old Pleck Road.
Diversion for traffic wishing to join the A454 (Black Country Route) westbound is Bentley Road North, around the roundabout to join the Black Country Route westbound.
