What We Carry
A reflection on the depth of grief after losing a loved one to a crash:
Grief.
We cannot escape it, it is part of life and the older we become the more we encounter it. Grief, can make us aware of our own mortality and someday, others will grieve for us.
I watch as people go about their lives, in a hurry, or slowed by disability. Chatting and laughing, or alone - some looking sad and troubled. I see the person but not the stories they carry within. What joys have they experienced, what traumas, who do they grieve for, who have they loved and lost.
I look at my RoadPeace friends and know that grief moves to another level. Unimaginable by those who have not been there, who have not known the indescribable pain and life-shattering news a loved one has been killed. We too continue to live but different lives to before, silent, overwhelming and consuming as people walk on by.
