Wednesbury Tram works

What’s happening?

Works to complete the connection of the existing tram line with the new Wednesbury to Dudley extension continue.

Tie-in work need to take place during February which means there will be disruption to tram services during the school half term holiday.

From 9:15pm on Monday 16 February 2026 until the end of service on Wednesday 18 February 2026, there will be no tram services between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Edgbaston Village in Birmingham.

Ticket acceptance will be available on the following alternative transport options:

Bus

National Express bus services:

  • 79 between Wednesbury and West Bromwich*
  • 74 between West Bromwich and Birmingham City Centre
  • All services between Colmore Row and Edgbaston Village

Rail

West Midlands Railways train services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, including Five Way (season ticket holders only).

Tram

Tram season tickets will also be accepted on West Midlands Railway train services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, including Five Ways.

During this time tram services will run between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Wolverhampton Station at an up to 8 minutes frequency.

Normal service will resume from the start of service on Thursday 19 February.

Travel tips

You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:

Your Metro ticket is accepted. on many alternative bus routes and rail services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham
Plan Ahead. Consider your alternative options using the TfWM Journey Planner and the MyMetro App
For shorter journeys:. Walk, scoot or cycle to your destination especially if you are travelling within town/city centres.
Think twice before driving. Could you get the train or the bus to your destination?
