Willenhall area

Bilston Street

Ends: 7 September 2026

Last updated: 13 January 2026

What’s happening?

We're building two new railway stations along the Walsall – Wolverhampton line at Darlaston and Willenhall.

Willenhall station will provide quicker and more reliable journeys to places like Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall, reducing congestion and pollution.

The station will be equipped with two platforms, lifts, ticket machines, information screens and secure bike parking.

In addition, work is being carried out throughout 2025 to create a network of improved cycling routes in the Willenhall area and along the A454 corridor.

In order to build these segregated cycle paths, a series of highway works are taking place along A454 Willenhall Road, New Road and Somerford Place.

Please check back here regularly for updates on local road closures and bus diversions in this area.

Bilston Street

From Monday 24 January to Sunday 30 January 2026 there will a full overnight closure of Bilston Street from 11pm to 5am due to works to the highway outside Willenhall station.

Please follow the local signed diversion.

Note: Walsall Council are still retaining the traffic signals on Bilston Street during the day to build a new cycle route linking the new rail station to further cycle lanes in the area.
