What’s happening?
We're building two new railway stations along the Walsall – Wolverhampton line at Darlaston and Willenhall.
Willenhall station will provide quicker and more reliable journeys to places like Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall, reducing congestion and pollution.
The station will be equipped with two platforms, lifts, ticket machines, information screens and secure bike parking. Rail services will be starting shortly from this station running to Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
You can view more information about the new stations here.
In addition, work is being carried out throughout 2026 to create a network of improved cycling routes in the Willenhall area and along the A454 corridor.
In order to build these segregated cycle paths, a series of highway works are taking place along A454 Willenhall Road, New Road and Somerford Place.
Please check back here regularly for updates on local road closures and bus diversions in this area.
Somerford Place area
Essential works have had to take place along Somerford Place in Willenhall.
From Monday 16 February 2026 to Friday 20 February 2026, Somerford Place will be fully closed. The closure will be in place for 24 hours every day.
Bus users
Due to the closure, National Express are operating a shuttle service, the 529E from the Sikh Temple on Rose Hill Road to Serve Willenhall.
There is a temporary bus stop in place for those using the shuttle service on Walsall Street/Cheapside for the week and wishing to access Willenhall shops and services.
