Using On Demand if you have special educational needs or a disability (SEND)

West Midlands Bus on Demand is a shared public transport service. It may be suitable for some passengers with special educational needs or disabilities, but it is not a dedicated assisted transport service.

This page explains things to consider before using the service.

Passenger assistance

Drivers can help passengers get on and off the vehicle, but:

  • there are no support workers or guides on board
  • passengers travel at their own risk

If you need support during your journey, you may wish to travel with a companion.

Travelling with a companion

You can book a journey with a companion.

  • companions must pay the normal fare
  • if you are registered with an essential companion, they may travel free of charge

Shared journeys

On Demand vehicles are shared with other passengers.

Other passengers may also be vulnerable or have a range of additional needs.

Availability

Journeys are subject to availability.

If the service is full, we may not be able to offer the journey you want.

You should ensure you have alternative travel arrangements for essential journeys, such as school or college.

Journey times

On Demand is a door-to-door shared service, so journey times can vary.

Pick-up and arrival times cannot be guaranteed.

Wheelchair users

If you use a wheelchair, you must complete a wheelchair risk assessment before using the service.

This assessment can take up to 30 days to complete.
