A Guide to Our Concessionary Travel Passes

We offer a variety of concessionary passes and special ticket offers to help make travel by public transport more accessible for residents across the region.

Many of our travel passes are available through Swift – an easy, affordable way to travel.

Here's a comprehensive guide to what's available, who’s eligible, and which benefits are included.

Older Person’s Travel Pass

  • Eligibility: Residents at UK state pension age living in the West Midlands.
  • Benefits: Free off-peak bus, tram, and train travel (all weekend and after 9:30am on weekdays)

Disabled Person’s Travel Pass

  • Eligibility: Residents aged 5+ with a qualifying disability lasting 12+ months.
  • Benefits: Same travel privileges as the Older Person’s Pass, plus tram and Blue Zone train access.

Child Photocard

  • Eligibility: Children aged 5 to 15.
  • Benefits: 50% off adult fares on buses, trams, and trains.

16–18 Photocard

  • Eligibility: Residents aged 16–18 born after 31 August 2006.
  • Benefits: Travel at child rates on all modes, including day and season tickets.
  • Valid Until: 31 July of the academic year in which the holder turns 18.

Student Discounts

  • Eligibility: Full-time students aged 18+, or 16–18-year-olds not eligible for the 16–18 photocard. You must have a valid letter from your place of study.
  • Benefits: Discounted fares for 4-week, term time, or Direct Debit tickets.

If you’re a student and don’t have to travel frequently, Swift pay-as-you-go may be a great option for you.

Workwise (Support for Job Starters)

  • Eligibility: Residents starting a job earning £30,000 or less, or increasing hours in their current job to 16+ per week.
  • Benefits: Two free 4-week travel passes and a third half price for bus, tram and / or train.

Accessing the Discounts

Here are just a few things to remember when selecting and applying for your travel pass:

  • Most offers require a Swift card, available through TfWM's online portal.
  • Applications may require proof of age, disability, employment, or student status.
  • Allow 5–7 working days for delivery.
