Metro

Over the next ten years there is around £1.3bn of investment planned for the West Midlands Metro to create a more connected public transport network and region. 

The extensions are planned, designed and constructed by Midland Metro Alliance on behalf of West Midlands Combined Authority.

There will be some changes to tram services during July and August, for essential maintenance work at Bilston Road and overhead line equipment upgrades across the metro network.

Bilston Road Works from 20.00 every evening: Monday 20 July to Tuesday 28 July

There will be no tram services between Priestfield and Wolverhampton Station / St George’s while road surface repairs are carried out.

During this time, Metro tickets and passes will be accepted on National Express bus service 79 between Wolverhampton and West Bromwich.

Overhead Line upgrades – Sunday Mornings 19 July, 2 August, 9 August & 23 August 2026

Sunday 19 July & 2 August 2026 – There will be no services between West Bromwich Central and Millenium Point / Edgbaston Village until 13.00. Services will only operate between Wolverhampton Station/Wolverhampton St George’s & West Bromwich only.

Sunday 9 August 2026 - There will be no services between Wolverhampton Station/Wolverhampton St George’s and Wednesbury Parkway until 13.00. Services will only operate between Wednesbury Parkway and Edgbaston

Sunday 16 August 2026 – The Elite marathon for the European Athletics will affect services for much of the day with the tram terminating at Grand Central. There will be no services between Grand Central and Millenium Point / Edgbaston Village.

Sunday 23 August 2026 - There will be no services between West Bromwich Central and Millenium Point / Edgbaston Village until 13.00. Services will only operate between Wolverhampton Station/Wolverhampton St George’s & West Bromwich only.

While this work is taking place ticket acceptance will be in place on the following NX bus services.

The Eastside extension will provide new and improved public transport links to the East of Birmingham City Centre and Digbeth and will connect HS2 Curzon Street Station to the Metro network.

This extension will create a connection between the current Metro line to Tipton, Dudley and on to Brierley Hill, with an additional 15 stops created.
