What’s happening?
In the Washwood Heath area of Birmingham, long term works to accommodate the arrival of HS2 are ongoing and include the demolition and reconstruction of both Aston Church Road and Saltley Viaduct.
Works to rebuild Aston Church Road are almost complete with Saltley Viaduct works due to start on Sunday 10 May 2026.
A new bridge will also be constructed to carry the high-speed train over the Lawley Middleway dual carriageway.

Lawley Middleway
Planned overnight works will take place on Lawley Middleway (A4540) between Garrison Circus and Curzon Circus.
A southbound only closure will be in place from 10pm to 6am each night, from Friday 22 May to Sunday 7 June.
A full closure in both directions will operate from 10pm to 6am each night, from Monday 25 May to Wednesday 27 May.
The works involve removing temporary bridge structures and completing permanent elements of the new viaduct. Signed diversions will be in place, and delays are expected.
