Become a cycling instructor
Are you a confident cyclist who loves to be outdoors and work with people?
What is Bikeability?
Bikeability is the Department for Transport’s flagship national cycle training programme for schoolchildren in England.
This practical and fun training programme is designed to give children the skills and confidence to cycle, helping them choose a healthy and sustainable way to travel.
And it's not just for children – Bikeability training is also available to adults in parts of the West Midlands, so more people can access cycling and its cost and health benefits, whatever their age.
To find out more, visit the Bikeability website.
Why become a cycling instructor?
"I could do this for the rest of my life."
If you love being outdoors, working with children, and inspiring others – becoming a cycling instructor could be your perfect next step.
No two days in this role are the same, but it's always rewarding. Bikeability instructors have lots of fun while also leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those they train, as cycling is a skill for life.
You'll gain a nationally recognised qualification and help children and adults in the West Midlands to cycle confidently and competently, giving them the tools to travel in a way that's healthy, sustainable, and cost-effective.
How does it work?
Before becoming a qualified instructor, you'll need to complete the Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training. A fully-funded bursary is available to complete the course.
The course consists of practical training and online learning, then you'll learn on the job while being paid. After six months, you'll be assessed to complete your qualification.
Then you're all set to enjoy your new role as a cycling instructor!
