Ends: ongoing

What’s happening?

Sandwell MBC and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) are working together to improve journeys in and around key junctions along main travel routes in and around Oldbury and West Bromwich.

As part of our Cross City Bus project, highway works are taking place at the A457 Oldbury Ringway and A457 Dudley Road on the north-western side of Oldbury town centre which will improve bus journey times and help those walking and cycling along these roads. New cross city bus services will make it easier and quicker to travel by bus around the region, reducing the need to change buses in Birmingham.

Initial survey works also took place during Summer 2026 at Birchley Island on all four arms of the junction.

Main works to improve journey times for all vehicles and help those walking and cycling around this large junction will start during 2027.

Travel tips

You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:

Plan ahead and allow more time for travel. You will still be able to get to where you need to go during the works.
You will be able to get where you are travelling to by bus. Please plan ahead and allow more time for your bus journey.
Signed diversion will be in place. You may also encounter some delays travelling within the vicinity of the junction for the duration of the works.
