Sandwell
Oldbury Ringway
Starts 20 August 2026 until Ongoing

What’s happening?
Sandwell MBC and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) are working together to improve journeys in and around key junctions along main travel routes in and around Oldbury and West Bromwich.
As part of our Cross City Bus project, highway works are taking place at the A457 Oldbury Ringway and A457 Dudley Road on the north-western side of Oldbury town centre which will improve bus journey times and help those walking and cycling along these roads. New cross city bus services will make it easier and quicker to travel by bus around the region, reducing the need to change buses in Birmingham.
Initial survey works also took place during Summer 2026 at Birchley Island on all four arms of the junction.
Main works to improve journey times for all vehicles and help those walking and cycling around this large junction will start during 2027.
Oldbury Ringway
A457 Oldbury Ringway & A457 Dudley Road
Bus priority measures are being installed on the north-western side of Oldbury town centre on the busy junction of A457 Oldbury Road and A457 Dudley Road.
The following measures are being installed to improve bus journey times and help people walk and cycle along this route more safely and easily:
- New signal-controlled crossing near Oldbury Ringway
- Carriageway widening and footway modifications to accommodate an eastbound bus lane near West Bromwich St and Oldbury Ringway,
- Changes to signing and carriageway markings to reflect these improvements on the highway.
These plans aim to improve reliability on the 87 bus.
From Sunday 27 September 2026, there will be a one-way closure on Dudley Road towards Oldbury from the Ringway junction up to the allotment access road beyond Junction Road.
This closure will be in place for up to 32 weeks (until April 2027 approximately).
Signed diversions will be in place around West Bromwich Street to Roway Lane and around Brades Lane.
NX bus route 87 will be diverted along Brades Lane.
Various stops may be temporarily closed – please plan your journey carefully and allow more time to travel.
