Sprint

Sprint is a bus priority corridor that will link Walsall with the centre of Birmingham, Solihull and Birmingham Airport - joining the A34 with the A45 to create one continuous bus route. 

Sprint will bring benefits for all bus passengers: providing more reliable, regular and predictable journey times, connecting our region and protecting our environment too.

A milestone project, Sprint is being delivered by Transport for West Midlands and forms part of the region-wide ambition to improve the public transport experience.

Bus lane and shelter improvements under the scheme have now been completed in Solihull town Centre with some further works continuing on the A45 Coventry Road and Lode Lane in Solihull through Autumn and Winter 2026.

Our construction teams are now focusing on the town centre of Walsall and the corridor towards Birmingham.

Transport for West Midlands is delivering highway and bus stop improvements in Walsall and Sandwell as part of the Sprint programme to provide faster, more reliable and accessible bus journeys along the A34 corridor.

The works include constructing new Sprint bus stops, improving footways and road surfaces, updating road markings and signs, and making associated changes to street lighting and highway layouts.

In Walsall town centre, upcoming works will take place on Darwall Street and there will be new bus shelters installed on Lichfield Street and Skip Lane.
