Rail Industrial Action 

Industrial action has been announced on the following dates which will have a significant impact on rail services across the region. 

December and January

RMT will be participating in action short of a strike from Sunday 18 December to Monday 2 January meaning services may start and finish later than usual.

RMT have also announced industrial action on the following dates:

    • Tuesday 3 January 
    • Wednesday 4 January 
    • Friday 6 January 
    • Saturday 7 January 
  • Local operators will be running reduced services on the above dates. Services will only run between 07.00 and 19.00.

    West Midlands Trains will be operating a number of services which can be found here. There will be no services on the Snow Hill Lines.

    Avanti West Coast will provide one train an hour between Euston and Birmingham.

    CrossCountry Trains will be operating one train per hour on key routes. More information can be found here.

    Chiltern Railways will not run any services north of Banbury. So will not be serving the West Midlands on the above dates.

    Transport for Wales services will not serve the West Midlands.

Road

M42 Junction 9-10 Full Closure  

There will be a phased temporary full closure on Friday 23 December -  Tuesday 3 January to lift the Marston Box Rail Bridge that will carry the HS2 line across the M42 motorway into place. The M42 will be closed in both directions: 

  • Southbound carriageway closure (Junctions 10 to 9) – from 9pm on Friday 23 December 2022 to 5am Tuesday 3 January 2023.
  • Northbound carriageway closure (Junctions 9 to 10) – from 8pm Saturday 24 December 2022 to 5 am Tuesday 3 January 2023

There will be a diversion route in place. Please plan ahead and leave more time for journeys. The diversion route is approximately 17 miles with a journey time of approximately 22 minutes in normal traffic conditions.
