TfWM is responsible for formulating the transport strategy and policy for the West Midlands, incorporating strategic highways, freight, rail, bus and rapid transit networks.
The adopted West Midlands Strategic Transport Plan, 'Movement for Growth' sets out a long term strategy for transport serving the West Midlands to ensure support for economic growth and development and an improved quality of life for the people of the West Midlands.
Movement for Growth was adopted by the WMCA in June 2016, fulfilling the statutory Local Transport Plan requirements as the Local Transport Authority for the Constituent Area of the Combined Authority.
A modern effective, efficient and reliable transport system as envisioned by Movement for Growth forms one of the pillars underpinning the delivery of the WMCA’s key objectives, namely closing the GVA gap in the West Midlands and creating 500,000 new jobs.
Movement for Growth sits alongside the WMCA Strategic Economic Plan as a complementary critical set of policies and plans - providing the overarching approach to the development a transport system into one which is fit for the challenges of economic & housing growth, social inclusion and environment change. It was designed to build consensus on a long term approach for transport strategy, in partnership with Local Authorities and LEPs.
